Who am I?
I am Kevin Chappell, an American designer based in Madeira Portugal. Design is my passion but I love learning and fixing things. I am not entirely comfortable with the title of “Designer” but it is the majority of my work and easier to explain than “Problem Solver”. I like “Problem Solver” as a title because I provide my customers with many solutions not just a nice design– which reminds me, if there is anything you need fixed don’t hesitate to contact me, I hate broken things.
Past
Growing up I have always been close to computers. It started with the Commodore 64 and I have used every iteration of computer since. Like many people, it was apparent to me from the start how important computers are and how amazingly productive they make you. This love of computers drove me towards a technical high school for “Micro-Computer Software Technology” where I furthered my skills while helping classmates learn to program. After high school I attended Middlesex College and studied Mass Communications, Art, Design and Animation. It was there I learned how to properly mix my love of computers with my love for design.
In 1999 I began making simple websites for friends and family which progressed into mechanical designs. These projects include designing custom dash components for cars, fixing the power window regulator arm flaw in Mitsubishi Starions, and even giving the uni-body car gull-wing doors.
Present
These days I live on the sunny island of Madeira and provide a wide range of services to clients spread across the globe. Monday through Friday 9-5 you can find me in front of the computer or in my lab doing my thing. Weekends I would like to be sunning on my top deck, sipping a mojito and listening to the waves break on the beach. However there is always work to be done.
FUTURE
This one is easy, be successful and save the world. Seriously though I hope that some of my endeavors have a positive impact on the environment and economy.
