The Orchid Gifts of Madeira

Orchid-Gifts-Madeira.comThe Orchid Gifts of Madeira is planning a new site to accompany the updated advertising. In the meantime however a temporary website has been erected so at the least visitors don’t get a blank page when they enter the address into their browser. If you visit the site you will notice its a remixed version of the full page A4 add I did a while ago. Jquery has been integrated to handle the seven languages the page is presented in and also the contact form. Check back in the coming months for a new site complete with e-commerce and a fresh new design.

TopRopeBelts.com

Top Rope BeltsWhen Randy of Top Rope Belts approached me about a new website I was excited. Top Rope Belts is a championship belt making company. They produce some of if not the finest belts in the business. The new site was a chance to build upon a tried and method business model that has worked for them for the last few years.

The old site had an interactive form that let users select what options they would like on their belt and a gallery for users to browse. The new site takes this method a step further and it does it in flash. Users are now able to actually draw out ideas for their belts and submit them as quote requests. There is also a 3d photo gallery that lets them browse nearly every belt the company has made (hundreds). If you have have a minute or two head on over and check it out.

The flash version of this site is no longer available but many of the features were carried over to the new WordPress version of the site.

Custom Laptop Builds

The majority of my time is spent debugging web-apps and doing graphic design, but every now and then I get to switch it up a bit with some computer hardware projects.

This project involved taking 2 broken laptops from the Fujitsu N series and turning them into something special. The laptops started as Fujitsu N6410 and were upgraded to the equivilent of an upgraded N6460.

N6410 Specifications

  • 17″ Crstal Bright Screen 1400×900
  • Core Duo T2300
  • 1Gb DDR2 Ram
  • ATI X1400 Graphics 128mb

New Specifications

  • 17″ Crstal Bright Screen 1400×900
  • Core 2 Duo T7700
  • 4Gb DDR2 667Mhz Ram
  • ATI HD2600 Graphics 512mb
  • HDMI OUT w/5.1 Audio
  • TV Tuner (internal)
  • Bluetooth
  • Finger print reader

As you can see the original specs were pretty weak but Fujitsu did us a solid but NOT upgrading their chassis and many other things, they only upgraded the hardware on the N series of laptops. This means you can find laptops with a broken screen on ebay, take everything out and put it in your chassis with working screen and boom new computer.

This was not good enough for me though because there were a couple basic things even the new N series lacked like bluetooth. So I set about to find the smallest USB bluetooth and an internal TV Tuner. The N series have a free internal USB connection, some boards even have a connector. Without the connector you have to either surface mount a connector or solder direct to the board.
